Following an unusual dry season, wildfires of unprecedented size sprung up in the Smoky Mountains. As the flames spread towards Gatlinburg, the city issued a state of emergency and called for an evacuation of the area. Dollywood itself was forced to shut down as fires raged in close proximity to the park.

Thankfully, Dollywood officials reported that none of the park itself was harmed by the flames, although a few cabins were destroyed. Dolly Parton sent her prayers to those affected by the fires and thanked the fire fighters who continue to battle the wildfires.

I have been watching the terrible fires in the Great Smoky Mountains and I am heartbroken. I am praying for all the families affected by the fire and the firefighters who are working so hard to keep everyone safe. It is a blessing that my Dollywood theme park, the DreamMore Resort, Dixie Stampede and so many businesses in Pigeon Forge have been spared.

Dollywood will remain closed until Friday as the park focuses on supporting the community. Hopefully the forecasted rain will help to fight the flames.
