Cedar Point today announced that they are planning a major water park expansion for 2017. Soak City will be rebranded as Cedar Point Shores and receive three new attractions.

Similar to Knott’s Soak City, the water park will receive a slide tower with six slides – four with dropping floors, and two with intense enclosed slides.

Also new-for-2017, Cedar Point Shores will be adding a large family area called Lakeslide Landing. Featuring 12 mild slides and a walk-in pool, the area should keep kids well entertained while their parents relax nearby on a new lounge.

Cedar Point also announced their plans to give their Express Hotel a facelift and add a 158-room wing to Hotel Breakers. These extra rooms should help the park handle the crowds next year.

But wait, wasn’t Cedar Point supposed to refurbish Mean Streak for 2017? Don’t worry, there’s a good chance the park has more 2017 announcements in store. Mean Streak will be officially closing on September 16, and I’m expecting Cedar Point to reveal their plans to transform the coaster shortly after, perhaps at the Golden Ticket Awards event. Of course, there’s always the chance that the Mean Streak conversion is really set for 2018.

Well, it looks like good things are in store for the future of Cedar Point. Are you excited about the park’s Cedar Point Shores rebranding? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

  1. Perhaps cedar Fair’s Michigan Adventure will get a new drinking fountain for 2017, and what is left of Geauga Lake will see a shiny bulldozer when these parks make their similar multi-media announcements!

  2. I kind of wish the space they’re gonna use for CP Shores could be used for another coaster or a family attraction. Ohio weather is not always compatible enough with water park requirements. But maybe I’m just the type of person who prefers coasters to waterslides. No matter what, it sure will be interesting! Great, great post!!

    • Thanks for the comment! I’ve never been much of a water park person myself, but I applaud Cedar Point for expanding theirs. It hadn’t received an update in over five years.
If Mean Streak gets the RMC treatment as rumored, I hope they’ll use the new layout to open up the back of the park, with a new midway and maybe a couple new attractions/flat rides. I’m also expecting the former Shoot the Rapids area to be filled out in the next couple years.
